COVID-19: Let us Go Back to Fundamental Reality

 The World Health Organization states that Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans. Though this is the official international report, there are individuals who expressed different opinions through social media platforms. Most of these opinions are skeptical of the international report though they lack solid evidences. As long as different opinions are available, people’s stances will be different. The question of where it came from undergoes a continuous debate, and maybe remains unanswered.

Between Islam and Salām (Peace)

The term Islam derives from the words “silm” and “salam,” which means surrender, submission and peace. Since Islam is a complete way of peace that occurs as a result of being obedient to Allah (SWT), the Qur’an asks all humanity to embrace this peaceful life and urges Muslims to continue their path to peace.

The right to life in Islam is an absolute value, as Allah (SWT) stated in the Qur’an: “He who kills a soul unless it be (in legal punishment) for murder or for causing disorder and corruption on the earth will be as if he had killed all humankind, and he who saves a life will be as if he had saved the lives of all humankind.” (Qur’an, 5:32). One of the main objectives of Islam is to introduce into the world an ideology that promotes the propagation of peace at all levels.

Prophet SAW interactions with Non-Muslims

Our Prophet Muhammed SAW was chosen from Allah SWT for prophethood after the great, divine prophets of Christianity and Judaism. At that time, the residents of the Arab peninsula were either polytheists, worshipping multiple gods and idols, or followers of Christianity and Judaism. There were also some people who continued to believe in the religion of the Prophet Abraham AS. It was during such circumstances that the Prophet SAW  emerged to introduce, for the first time, the religion which would set forth a universal and pervasive call; namely, a religion that would more or less challenge all schools of thoughts and religions before it.

At the beginning of this year 2020, the news of the spread of a new viral disease that started in the city of Wuhan, China has left the world flabbergasted. It was discovered that the virus belongs to the large family of Coronavirus which was later named COVID-19. Generally, it causes the destruction of the respiratory system due to transmission via droplets and fomites during close, unprotected contact between an infector and infectee. It was not long before COVID-19 passed the Great Wall of China heading to many parts of the world as a result of people moving freely from one country to another.
